Hailing from Columbus, OH, Southside Chiefs set out to deliver their own, personal take on Americana, tainting the genre with garage and alternative rock influences, not unlike bands such as The Gaslight Anthem, Lucero, Neil Young (Crazy Horse) or The Replacements.
The band balances their rough and gritty side with consistent injections of melody, keeping their sound refreshingly straight-forward and essential, just like a real rock band should. With Brad Hutson on bass and Matt Potter behind the drum kit, Southside Chiefs can count on a tight rhythm section that drives the songs without overshadowing the other important elements, provided by Patrick Koch, Dustin Gross (guitars) and Jake Westrick (lead vocals).
The recordings available on the group’s Reverbnation page highlight their energy, and benefit from the live performance-like feel, that helps out on the aesthetics side, giving the band an even more honest and organic edge that is confirmed by the heartfelt and down-to-earth lyrics.
